2010 24HCD event will be held on October 2nd

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Amanda Emmert

Oct. 2, 2010 will be the date of the 7th annual 24-Hour Comics Day! The date was announced by the 24HCD Committee at the ComicsPRO Annual Membership Meeting in Memphis, Tenn.

24-Hour Comics Day is an annual challenge for cartoonists to produce a 24-page comic book written, drawn, and completed in 24 consecutive hours. ComicsPRO, the comic book specialty retailer trade group organizes the day with the enthusiastic endorsement of the event's founder, Nat Gertler, publisher of About Comics.

In 2009, more than 2,000 professional and amateur cartoonists participated in more than 100 venues.

Over the years, the 24-Hour comic book challenge has thwarted and rewarded such comics luminaries as Scott McCloud, Dave Sim, Neil Gaiman, Kevin Eastman and many others. On 24 Hour Comics Day, creators of all ages and levels of skill and experience gather at one of the participating sites to encourage each other in completing this creative comics marathon.

Venue registration for this year’s event will begin in June.

[A note to participants: please don't email your venue information! Registration will open in June and we will only be able to process venues who register at the 24-Hour Comics Day website. Thank you--we look forward to working with you this year!]

24HCD Documentary

Hello!

My name is Daniel Larson and this year was my first experience with the 24 Hour Comic event. I've been drawing comics for several years and had heard of the event before, but was never able to participate. This year, my schedule allowed me to jump in. I decided to invite a filmmaker friend of mine to come along and document the experience. What we created was a 37 minute documentary about the event at Double Midnight Comics in Manchester, NH.

A few links to get you started:

My website: www.circlecomics.com
My 24 Hour Comic: http://www.comicspace.com/circlecomics/comics.php?action=read&file_id=307394

Because the film was so long, we had to break it into 2 separate parts for viewing online:

Part 1- http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbehen_24-pages-pt-1-of-2_creation
Part 2- http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbeht7_24-pages-pt-2-of-2_creation

Hope you enjoy it!

24 Hour Comics Day in New Mexico 2009 Wrapup

Created with flickrSLiDR.

24 Hour Comics Day 2009 at the Harwood Art Center had a great turnout this year! We may have had the largest attendance of any location in the world, with 41 people making the attempt (including 2 who worked from home and kept in contact with us throughout the night).

We had 11 people who made the trek from Santa Fe, Ms. Webber-Bey and a big group of her Comic Club students from Albuquerque, and Mike Hanlon who came all the way from Alamogordo! Thanks, Mike. Most folks stuck with us at least until morning. In the end, 16 24-page comics were completed by 18 creators (2 were made by 2 people collaborating).

Check out the coverage from the event:
Thanks to the Harwood Art Center for their generous support, and to all of our sponsors:
